When will our prayers get to the gate of heaven?
Mrs Kate went to spend
2-weeks with her son in London. Since she came back her notion about church and
prayer seems to have changed. “I am tired of this country; churches
everywhere but we are the most corrupt and underdeveloped. There they have
lesser churches and they are already living in the future!”
That we Nigerians are
over-religious would not have been a big deal if the nation was more prosperous
than it is. It would have had a position as the next holiest place to visit
after Jerusalem if our prayers have been equivalent to the work we put in.
Being arguably the most
religious country in Africa and extensively, the world, is a sign that we
follow Jesus’ footsteps and are in many ways related to Him.
But alas, the results of of
our prayers are not commensurate with the state of the nation. It is pitiful
and unfortunate that the leaders we put our earthly faith in are showing us the
bad side of governance more than the good.
The real reason why things
have turned out this way is because we have been blinded by the notion that
only God can solve our problems hence the zero-need for us to work towards the
realization of our nation-wide goals.
We have misplaced our
priorities and are now wallowing in the despair and disappointments we have put
ourselves in.
Ironically, the whites who
introduced Christianity to us are more futuristic; this makes one to start
asking whether the God we pray to is not the same One that answers the white
man's prayer.
One can continue to write
on the effect of bad governance in recent times and no ink will be left in the
pen. Personally, I am tired of ranting everyday about the woes we face everyday
as citizens of one of the most corrupt and underdeveloped country in the world;
Seychelles is an African country. By 2022 it would have been more developed and
it is just 42 years-old.
The best we can do to
change the narrative is to focus more on working closely with God because He
has answered our prayers; we just need to keep our own side of the promise by
putting in work.
As far as I’m concerned, if
we base our lifestyle on the premise of Jesus’ way of life, then we are sure to
have a fruitful country and continent at large.
The everyday fire-for-fire
prayers have taken us nowhere near the Promised Land. Maybe they are still
knocking on heaven's gate...who knows?
Work Nigerians! Work more
and pray less! The future is just a second away.
Hnmm...
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more bro.
We are just too religious a nation. Unfortunately, our fanatic religiousness does not attend to the heightening level of moral decadence in the society. Basic moral values like honesty, accountability, hardwork, selflessness, faithfulness, modesty integrity... (the list goes on) that should naturally be the fruit to show for our religious life style as a people is nowhere. Corruption has been institutionalized. Both the leader and we followers alike have a lot to do on ourselves. I'm sure by now, the answers to our prayers is already becoming stale and rusty in our hands. May God help us.
Weldone great Spartan!
