2 Ways to Keep Your Holiday Spending in Check and Still Enjoy Your Ileya Meat
It’s the biggest holiday for Muslims around the world and you probably have plans on what to wear, where to go, and the most delicious recipes to make since family and friends may be swinging by at your place.
After all, the best joys of this world need to be shared with people we love and those who care about us. The moment is the same for everyone in Dubai, London, and Ibadan.
If you’re like me who is still struggling to figure out how to have fun during this period, then I’m sending you a warm handshake. Many of us really want to have a fulfilling holiday but it comes at a huge price. It gives us the question of how to experience all of these without ending up broke at the end of it all. Despite the financial setbacks many Nigerians are facing right now due to the COVID19 pandemic, many would want to have the best of the Eid moment. The market inflation has already affected many of us but not all will bow to such pressure not to spend money on an expensive cow, clothes, and gifts for loved ones.
If you are not careful, the Ileya holiday and its seductive fanfare can easily consume your budget and leave you struggling weeks after chewing the last chunk of meat.
1. DIYs Will Cut Budget
For the female folk especially, Abayas are the latest trends. As I’m writing this, my friend Kemi is placing fashion stones on an abaya she sewed herself. She would have probably bought it for a very expensive price at the online store but she says “…the best designs came out during the Itunu Awe period and quality Abayas go for at least 25k. I felt its best I designed one for myself to escape the financial burden and use the money for other important things and also sell my craft”.
If there are certain things you would have bought or services you would have outsourced this holiday, simply do them yourself and delegate them to others. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ve saved doing it yourself.
2. Stay at Home (Sapa Dey Outside)
“We’re outside!” Oh yeah…everyone wants to be outside chilling, sipping wine to Wizkid’s Essence, flooding Instagram with beautiful pictures, and having the best conversations with the world people. The club would sure be expecting you to pop some bottles and more. But bro, you can actually stay home and be outside. Do you want to know how? Get your babe to cook a pretty delicious meal, turn the volume up on some groovy music, fix your Netflix, host those you are financially able to, and order cold zobo from Dynabite Delish.
For salary earners, it would make lots of sense if we had the best holiday and still have lots of cash in our accounts before getting the next salary. And for those of us who are self-employed, not blowing up too much cash this period will mean we can keep our heads about the waters before the next big buck comes in. let us ‘flex with sense’ this period ya’ll so our mouth will not be dry.
